Benefits of active birth classes

Bringing a new life into the world is a momentous occasion, filled with excitement, anticipation, and sometimes a touch of anxiety. One of the best ways to prepare for your best birth experience is to engage in an active birth class.

One of the major benefits is the knowledge you gain about the physiology of labour and birth. Having a better understanding of how your body works, enables you to tune into its needs, have a smoother progression during labour and approach birth with less fear.

Practical skills are the essence of active birth classes. It's important to learn coping strategies on how to best manage your labour and develop your toolbox of active skills from breathing techniques, optimal positions, distraction techniques, TENs machines and other tools.

Your birth support team are essential to an empowering birth. Having your cheerleaders rally around you in such an intense time can sometimes be the difference in your empowering birth outcomes. Building up their skills and knowledge during a class, allows them to feel confident and capable to support you with what you need and not become fearful when things become intense.

In active birth classes, you learn how to foster a deeper connection to your body, baby and partner. Feeling capable and reducing anxiety and fear allows room for feelings of confidence and empowerment.

Ultimately these classes and learned skills lead to:

  • increased trust in your own body's ability to birth

  • improved skills in self-advocacy

  • increased likelihood of spontaneous onset of labour

  • higher rates of vaginal birth

  • reduction in medical intervention at birth

  • better birth satisfaction for both parents

  • increased breastfeeding rates

  • reduction in birth trauma

That's an incredible outcome for a small investment in time to lead you in the right direction, with the right information.

Proactively engaging in your pregnancy journey by attending a birth class is so important to have a positive experience as no one knows what is important for your journey except you!
